On the 29th of November 2023, the Iganga foundation hosted the fourth edition of the Design Studio. This year, we were glad to gather in hybrid format more than 20 people, including professionals from Goudappel, lecturers/students from the Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUAS), and local representatives from four participant cities:
- Aguascalientes (Mexico)
- Gulu (Uganda)
- Sibiu (Romania)
- Shenzen (China)
This activity, which is held annually since 2020, gave us the opportunity to work on exciting design challenges in the field of mobility and urban design from these four cities. The program that lasted for a complete afternoon, started with a plenary session with a short lecture about urban design principles (as applied in the Netherlands), and the presentation of all design challenges. Then, the group was divided in four breakout session, where participants brainstormed together and “put pen to paper” to try to produce a proposal/solution for their respective challenges. Finally, in a plenary session, all the designs were presented and discussed.
The reactions of all participants in this activity were very positive. The Iganga foundation remains in contact with local partners and hopes to be able to further collaborate with them in 2024.
